Biography

T enson Liang is an internationally recognized pianist, collaborative artist, and cultural leader celebrated for his expressive depth, technical command, and innovative programming. A versatile and compelling musician of his generation, he has earned top distinctions across the United States and abroad, including honors at the MTNA Collegiate Piano Graduate Division, the National Taiwan Mandarin Daily News Piano Competition, and the Gold Medal at the National Taiwan Young-Artist Piano Competition. He was also a first-prize winner of the University of Missouri Concerto Competition—performing Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 as soloist with the University Philharmonic Orchestra—and a finalist in both the Wideman International Piano Competition and the West Virginia International Piano Competition.

A dedicated advocate for classical music accessibility and curated concert experiences, Mr. Liang has performed as a featured guest artist for prestigious cultural organizations, including the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) and the Emerald Coast Music Alliance. His festival appearances include the Star of Bangkok Music Festival, the Taipei Music Festival, and the Formosa Summer Music Festival. Notable performance projects include the Beethoven 32 Piano Sonatas Marathon, thematic explorations of Maurice Ravel’s Miroirs alongside contemporary reflections, and extensive concert tours across major cities in the United States and Asia.

Deeply committed to community engagement and artistic leadership, Mr. Liang currently serves as the Music Director at Milltown United Methodist Church (UMC) and is the Founder of the Milltown Concert Series, presenting high-level classical performances to regional audiences. Previously, he founded Classical Music Express in Kansas City, producing over 50 concerts in non-traditional venues to bring classical music directly to local communities. Currently based in New Jersey, Mr. Liang directs his own private piano studio and is a Steinway Certified Teacher with more than 15 years of dedicated pedagogical experience, seamlessly balancing mentorship with an active performing career.

Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Mr. Liang began his piano studies at the age of five before moving to the United States to pursue advanced musical studies at the historic Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University under Brian Ganz. He went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the University of Missouri–Columbia (UMKC) Conservatory under Dr. Peter Miyamoto as a recipient of the Joanne Baker, Lorraine Watson, and H.J. Chartrand scholarships. Mr. Liang completed his Artist Diploma—the highest, most selective performance degree—at Rutgers University under the mentorship of Dr. Min Kwon and Dr. John Perry, where he currently serves as a Teaching Assistant and collaborative pianist at the Mason Gross School of the Arts.
